“I’m sorry, but you won’t be able to teach today.” These were the words that one of my most dedicated students said to me when she saw me doubled over in pain in the yoga studio. There, in that moment of extreme vulnerability, I realized that my life was about to change drastically.

Blood. Pain. Exhaustion. For years, I had ignored the signals my body was sending me. As a personal trainer, I always believed that I could overcome any obstacle with willpower and exercise. I was dead wrong.

“Lauren, your fibroids are the size of an orange,” said Dr. Martinez, pointing at the ultrasound screen. “And they’re growing fast.”

At that moment, the world stopped. How could I, a health and wellness professional, have overlooked my own body’s signals so much? The irony didn’t escape me.

Today, I share with you the story of my hysterectomy. It’s not just another medical report — it’s a journey of self-discovery, courage and transformation that can change the way you see your own body.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, around 500,000 hysterectomies are performed every year in the United States. But behind these numbers, there are real stories of women like me and, possibly, like you.
