When I decided to get pregnant at 38, many looked at me in astonishment. “Don’t you think it’s a bit late?” they’d ask. But I knew what I wanted. What about you? Have you ever questioned the right time to become parents?

The truth is that pregnancy after 35, once called “geriatric pregnancy” (a term that, thankfully, has fallen out of use), is becoming increasingly common. Today, doctors prefer the term “advanced maternal age.” Sounds better, don’t you think?

The Challenges of Late Pregnancy

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in my doctor’s office, Dr. Johnson, when he said to me:”Sarah, let’s be straightforward. Having a baby at 38 brings some additional risks.
